Six giant wind turbines ‘will ruin landscape’

Western Morning news, www.thisisdevon.co.uk 16 September 2011

Campaigners say plans to build six giant wind turbines near one of the most important wetlands of its type in the world would ruin views of the natural habitat from neighbouring areas.

Protesters against the building of the proposed 140m turbines at the Pilrow site near Rooksbridge, close to the Somerset Levels, say the structures will have a devastating effect on the landscape.

Images prepared by an artist have appeared on the campaigning group’s website showing six giant turbines, propsed by Broadview Energy, clearly visible from areas near the Levels.

Nick Woolmington, committee chairman of the NoPilrow Action Group, said he hoped people would visit the campaign group’s website www.nopilrow.co.uk to see some of the information and photographs that show the potential impact.

He said: “They will have their views ruined and there are many other implications including the impact to the tourist industry.”

Not all residents are against the wind farm. Wedmore’s Green Group are in favour of wind power. They will meet with Broadview to hear the plans on October 5 in the village.
