A clean energy company that was the victim of vandalism last month is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

NextEra Energy Resources, a large generator of wind and solar power, put up the money Thursday after someone damaged its wind turbine construction project near Vasco Road, according to Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office spokesman Jimmy Lee.

The project, which is about seven miles south of Camino Diablo was vandalized between 7 p.m. Aug. 26 and 7 a.m. Aug. 27.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a site manager told deputies that an underground oil pipeline was ruptured when the vandal used an excavator to dig holes on the property.

The company noticed the subsequent pressure loss and shut down the line, but not before an unknown amount of oil leaked into the environment. The estimated cost of the oil damage and clean up is between $50,000 and $100,000, Lee said.
