On Friday, September 9, Governor LePage nominated Pattie Aho of Newcastle to lead the Maine Department of Environmental Protection. Aho has served as acting commissioner since June.

“Pattie has been an important leader in making the DEP a stronger and more effective, ‘customer-friendly’ agency,” said Governor LePage. “We can ensure sustainable economic development in Maine through a balanced stewardship of the state’s natural resources and she has already started to make that happen in her role as acting commissioner,” added the governor.

Aho graduated from Nasson College and earned a law degree from Western New England College.

Prior to joining the LePage administration, she worked since 2006 as a lobbyist with Pierce Atwood Consulting in Augusta. As a 2011 registered lobbyist, Aho is listed as representing, on behalf of Pierce Atwood Consulting, American Chemistry Council, American Petroleum Institute, Horizon Wind Energy, LLC, Maine Real Estate & Development Association, Maine State Bar Association, Molina Healthcare, Inc., Unitil Corporation, and Verso Paper.

The Maine Senate is expected to vote on Aho’s nomination during the special session to be held on September 27.
