Wind farm documentary at the museum

A very topical documentary investigating the pros and cons of the global wind energy industry is to be shown at the Shetland Museum and Archives, later this month.

Director Nigel Spence will be present at the screening of ‘Con With the Wind?’ hosting a question and answer session following the 80 minute long film.

The film has been described as a “passionate and inspirational look at the myths, facts and lies surrounding big business interests” in the wind farm industry.

Mr Spence insists that his movie is “not anti-wind farm”.

He said: “It portrays both sides of the story and looks at the facts. It will not change the minds of anyone who is strongly pro or anti wind farm; instead this film will appeal to the audience in the middle ground who have yet to make up their minds.”

When the filmmaker started his quest for the truth about wind turbines, he heard only good things. However, what he uncovered during four years of filming in 15 countries shocked him. ‘Con With the Wind?’ documents that journey.

The film has an impressive crew and cast. In addition to Nigel Spence (director and camera), the piece is edited by Dan Susman, a multi award winning filmmaker, director and editor.

Interviewees in the film include the former chief scientific adviser to government Professor Sir David King, the current UK secretary of state for energy and climate change Chris Huhne, UKIP politician Lord Monckton and medical experts Dr Nina Pierpont and Dr Michael Nissenbaum.

The film will be shown in Shetland Museum and Archives Auditorium on Thursday 29 September. Doors are open at 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start.
