Committees back windfarm project

Fife Today, www.fifetoday.co.uk 14 September 2011

A windfarm project has got the go-ahead from two council area committees.

Further backing has been given to a proposed windfarm development at Earlseat, just off the Standing Stane road.

Last week councillors on the Levenmouth area committee of Fife Council raised no objections to the farm, which would see a potential nine turbines placed by Carbon Free Developments, and now their colleagues on the Glenrothes area committee have done likewise.

The £25m development would create 30 short-term jobs during its development and will also contribute £2.1m to an apprenticeship scheme.

Dominic Farrugia, director of Carbon Free Developments, said this week: “This application is based on careful site selection, in-depth studies to assess impact on ecology, landscape, and extensive community consultation which indicated a high level of public support.”

He further added: “The Earlseat project – and our commitment to fund 150 apprenticeships – has the potential to really boost Fife’s reputation as a renewables hub. We are hopeful of a positive decision from the planning committee on September 20.”
