Broadmeadows seven-year wind farm saga extended

A renewable energy company has appealed to the Scottish government to rule on plans for a wind farm, which were first submitted seven years ago.

Scottish Borders Council refused permission for the Broadmeadows development near Selkirk in June.

However, developers GreenPower have now lodged an appeal against the decision to reject the eight-turbine scheme.

The government’s Directorate of Planning and Appeals has requested a response from the council.

It is the latest move in a long-running planning battle over the scheme in the Yarrow Valley, close to the Southern Upland Way.

The proposals were first submitted seven years ago but were subsequently scaled back from 13 turbines to eight.

The application attracted strong opposition from local communities and was unanimously rejected by councillors this year.

Planning officials had advised refusal saying the project would have a “significant adverse impact on the landscape character of the area”.

The case will now be examined by the Scottish government before a final decision is given.
