Commissioners are presented with new wind turbine project proposal

County commissioners are once again discussing another wind turbine project that could soon be built in Far East Laredo.
Whitetail Wind Energy presented their project to commissioners. Their plans include constructing 57 wind turbines out near Oilton, just south of the current wind farm in east Webb County. Representatives say they want to negotiate with the county and want commissioners to approve proposed tax abatement incentives. Some say the last company that put up a wind farm took advantage of the tax abatements incentives but hired very few Webb County residents.
Whitetail wind energy representatives say they do want to hire as many locals as possible, and the county stands to benefit greatly in many ways. Development manager, Dan King, says, “We’re all for bringing in opportunities to the county. We’re going to be bringing in significant property taxes even during abatement period which will help tax payers.”
The company says it will go to commissioners with a proposal sometime soon and hopes to have the project online by the end of next year.
