Wind mast plans refused

Councillors refused permission for a 200-foot high wind turbine in countryside between Kilmacolm and Port Glasgow.

The turbine was proposed for High Mathernock Farm, Auchentiber Road.

The mast would have been about 150-feet high but with the blade the whole structure would have been 200-feet high.

Inverclyde Planning Board agreed with planning officials who had recommended refusal because the turbine would have been an “excessively prominent feature” in that part of the Inverclyde countryside.

Councillor Tom Fyfe said: “It would set a precedent. It is far too big.”

Meanwhile the board also rejected an application to put up a less prominent, 150-foot-high wind measuring anemometer mast for two years at Priestside Farm, Auchentiber Road, Kilmacolm.

The application was refused because the anchors to secure the mast would have damaged the Devol Road Upland Site of Importance for Nature Conservation.
