Turbine numbers cut following public consultation

Plans for an extension at a Mearns windfarm have been revised following consultation with the community.

A proposal had been made to build seven new turbines at the windfarm at Tullo near Laurencekirk.

The site, which is owned by the company Enco, currently has seven turbines which produce enough energy to meet the needs of 7,000 homes.

During a public consultation in June a number of local residents expressed their concern that the addition of new turbines would have a large visual impact on the area.

As a result of the public’s concerns Enco have reduced the proposed number of turbines to four.

Tullo windfarm development manager, Daniel Badcock said: “The improved plans show that we have taken into account all of the views and opinions of local residents. and acted upon them indeveloping this new proposal.”

“The revised plans will reduce the visual impact of the new turbines from Laurencekirk and we believe they are the most suitably located on the extention site.”
