Banks pulls Knoweside wind farm plan

renews.biz 9 September 2011

Banks Renewables has withdrawn plans for the proposed Knoweside wind farm in north Carrick.

The move follows South Ayrshire Council’s planning officers recommending the scheme for refusal at a planning committee meeting scheduled for 15 September 2011.

Banks was working on the scheme with landowners the Cassillis and Culzean Estates.

The company said the project received many letters of support from local residents and businesses and would have contributed £6m to the community.

Around 30 people would have been employed on site during the its construction

Banks development director Phil Dyke said: “This is extremely disappointing … most of the reasons for recommending refusal have not been discussed with ourselves or with the Cassillis and Culzean Estates.”

Banks will now assess the different options open to it for this proposal before deciding on what next steps to take.
