Turbine bid refused

Colwyn Bay residents are “delighted” after plans to install 32 metre wind turbines near homes were refused.

Bryn Y Gwynt Ltd submitted a planning application to build two 225kW turbines at Glyn Farm off Glyn Avenue in a bid generate 840,000 kWh of electricity and save an estimated 450 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.

But the proposal concerned neighbouring residents who feared they would be a blight on the landscape and could set a dangerous precedent for more turbines to be built in the future.

Following an assessment by Conwy County Borough Council Planning Department, the application was refused.

Tegwyn Hughes, 75, who lives just outside Llanelian, said: “Obviously we are quite delighted it has been refused. I believe there were hundreds of letters opposed to it – we had a wonderful response from the whole area, from people in the Glyn estate and Llanelian.

“We hope that’s the end, it’s just a question of whether it goes to appeal.”
