Narungga people want a level playing field

Significant dreaming stories, Aboriginal burial grounds, cultural and archaeological sites thousands of years old are located within the proposed Suzlon wind farm site, according to traditional owner Quenten Agius.

Mr Agius, who is chairperson of Adjahdura Narungga Heritage Group (Yorke Pensinula), said these areas need to be protected.

“We welcome Suzlon Energy making contact with us and starting the consultation process,” he said.

“We look forward to the cultural mapping of the area and future negotiations with Suzlon.

“As well as the protection of our sites, we expect fair and equitable treatment as traditional owners of this country.

“We expect to be placed on the same playing field as the 30 farmers who will each receive a reported $90,000 per year to host the wind farm turbines.”
