Families lose fight on M6 wind turbine scheme

The Sentinel, www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk 2 September 2011

Controversial plans to build a wind turbine near a motorway service station have been given the green light.

The Sentinel revealed on Tuesday how residents in part of Stone were objecting to the plans for a turbine at the Stafford North services, off the M6, because they thought it would have a detrimental impact on their homes.

Members of Stafford Borough Council’s planning committee have now met to discuss the plans and decided to approve them.

The 61.1-metre turbine will power the motorway service area and, at times, feed electricity into the National Grid.

Applicant Moto Hospitality believes the turbine will create extra publicity for the site, leading to more customers and the prospect of extra jobs being created.
