Orono – Not everyone is onboard with offshore wind.
Members of Penobscot Bay Watch of Rockland say they are concerned with how far off shore the turbines will be. They say they need to be at least twenty miles.
They gathered at the University of Maine to protest.
They say if ocean windfarms are built any closer they could hurt commercial fishermen, forcing the lobster larvae away.
They say they are in favor of doing the tests and hope UMaine holds true to its promise of placing the windfarms more than twenty miles out.
“We want to sort of be a truth patrol. Keep reminding the powers they can do it right and not just a quick political thing.”
They say the plan to see this to the end and they hope Maine takes the proper precautionary steps.
