Proposed wind farm sparks outrage

A proposed wind farm is stirring a protest in the Cattaraugus County town of Allegany.

Residents oppose Ever Power’s plan to install 500-foot tall wind turbines on Chipmunk Ridge. They object to the project for economic and environmental reasons.

Gary Abrahm said, “The U.S. Fish and Wildlife has found it’s going to have collisions with bald eagles, which flourish in this river valley. Property values will go down somewhat anywhere within sight of the wind farm. And the noise will affect the people that live in the immediate vicinity.”

Ever Power would pay the town of Allegany several hundred thousand dollars over 10 years for rights to install the turbines. Protesters say that money’s not worth the trouble.
