Accident involving wind turbine blade causes $275,000 damage

No one was injured in the crash between two semi-tractor trailers this morning that caused more than $275,000 damage to a wind turbine propeller and restricted traffic for more than two hours.

According to the Dubuque Police Department, Michael Anders, 47, of Smithshire, Ill. was cited for failure to maintain control. His semi struck the one carrying the propeller, driven by Ricky Stagner, 54, Grand Prairie, Texas.

The semi-tractor trailer carrying the wind turbine and the other semi-tractor trailer involved in the accident have been cleared.

The intersection is not yet completely open, but Dubuque Police hope to have all traffic moving by 10:30 a.m.

Authorities this morning are at the scene of an accident on the west side of the Julien Dubuque Bridge connecting East Dubuque, Ill., and Dubuque.

The accident involves two semi-tractor trailers, one carrying a unit for a wind turbine. A blade of the turbine is touching the other semi.

Northbound traffic entering Dubuque from U.S. 52 is blocked, and access between U.S. 20 and the bridge is cut off.

A towing company arrived on scene about 9 a.m. to start clearing the accident. As of 9:40, they had moved the semi from under the turbine blade. Traffic is still blocked.
