The Mason County Planning Commission approved Consumers Energy’s special land use application requests to construct seven meteorological or ‘met’ towers in Riverton and Summit townships. They will be used to collect data for Consumers’ planned wind farm in the same area.

The planning commission met Tuesday for a public hearing on the met towers at Ludington City Hall. After a public hearing on the matter, the planning commission approved the special land use applications with some conditions, including getting appropriate permits for the towers and a performance guarantee for their removal, Mason County Zoning Director Mary Reilly said.
