Mason County officials will continue tackling the issue of Consumers Energy’s wind turbines planned for Riverton and Summit townships in the coming weeks.

Tonight the planning commission will meet for a public hearing for seven meteorological towers to be erected in conjunction with the wind park.

Last month the planning commission approved Consumers Energy’s special land use application to build a wind farm consisting of 56 476-foot wind turbines in Riverton and Summit townships.

The Citizens Alliance for Responsible Renewable Energy is appealing the planning commission’s decision

and Wednesday the zoning board of appeals will meet to discuss the zoning appeals process.

The purpose of Wednesday’s ZBA meeting will be to discuss the zoning appeal process, and explain and demonstrate the “full record” of information as it relates to the item being appealed.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the commissioners chambers at the Mason County Courthouse.

A special meeting of the ZBA will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25 in the North Lounge of the Administration and Conference Building on West Shore Community College’s Campus.

The purpose of that meeting will be to hold a public hearing on CARRE’s appeal.

Public Sector Consultants to help with Good Neighbor Fund

Monday, Consumers Energy told the Daily News Public Sector Consultants was selected as the third party administrator to assist with the Good Neighbor Fund, a $2 million fund Consumers Energy is setting up to address possible issues certain individuals may have who live in close proximity to a wind turbine in the Lake Winds Energy Park.
