Collector welcomes O’Farrell’s wind farm comments

The NSW Premier has spoken out against wind power during a radio interview yesterday, outlining his hopes to not approve any further wind farm developments.

Speaking yesterday on 2GB, Mr O’Farrell said 19 wind farm applications had been received before the March election and none since.

”If you’re the farmer with a wind farm on your property, you are very very happy,” he said on air.

”If you’re the bloke next door or the woman next door, you’re very unhappy because [of] not just the impact upon your property, but also in some cases the impact upon your health and amenity and those things.”

But a recent Senate inquiry into the impact of wind farms was unable to draw a direct link between ill health and wind turbines.

The report was tabled in June.

Mr O’Farrell’s comments were met with cautious optimism by the Collector community, which has been protesting against plans for 80 turbines near their village.

Resident Rodd Pahl said the comments were welcome news to a community concerned about the potential health and social impacts of turbines.
