Please think twice before allowing more of these monstrosities

The Chronicle, 10 August 2011

I have remained a bit ambivalent during the debates about the value of alternative energy versus the value of our scenery here in Vermont over the past few years.

That all changed last week as I drove from Island Pond to Lake Willoughby over the Westmore Road. As I often do, I stopped at the top of the hill to take in the spectacular view before me.

This time, however, my eyes were immediately drawn to the things that didn’t belong in that picture, the Sheffield wind turbines.

One of the most sweeping, majestic views in the Northeast Kingdom has been forever ruined by the intrusion of these man-made objects dotting the ridgeline.

Fellow Vermonters, please think twice before allowing any more of these monstrosities onto our landscape, relinquishing to the power companies control over our most precious asset for a few dollars of tax relief.
