Go-ahead for Knockalour wind farm

Gorey Guardian, www.goreyguardian.ie 9 August 2011

Planning permission has been granted for a four turbine wind farm at Knockalour, Kilrush.

Knockalour Wind Farm Ltd. recently applied to Wexford County Council for permission to develop a wind farm of up to four wind turbine generators to export electricity.

The turbines will have a hub height of up to 85 metres, and a rotor diameter of up to 82 metres. The work will also involve the construction of a crane hard standing for each turbine, as well as an electrical substation, underground cabling, site roads, and also ancillary services.

The development is located in the townland of Knockalour, Bunclody, where there is already existing planning permission for four wind turbines with a hub height of up to 80 metres, and a rotor diameter of up to 72 metres. However, with the granting of the new planning permission, the application stated that only the taller turbines will be put in place.
