Plans for a wind turbine on the top of Cumbrae have been withdrawn – just after more community councillors had added their strong objections to the project.
Last week, members of Largs Community Council spoke of their fears that plans for a 54 metre turbine close to Ballochmartin Farm could be a ‘desecration of our whole coast’.
However, earlier in the week, Glasgow-based Arcus Renewables had written to North Ayrshire Council, asking that the application be withdrawn altogether.
While the firm had insisted that the turbine would not be “significantly detrimental” to the surrounding area, Largs Community Council believed it could prove exactly the opposite.
