Bourne wind project offers residents last chance to be heard

BOURNE – Residents and others with opinions about the New Generation Wind power project will have one last chance on Monday to air their thoughts for a Cape Cod Commission subcommittee tasked with reviewing the project.

The public comment period on the proposed Bournedale project ends just a few days later, on Aug. 9, after which the subcommittee will make a recommendation to the full Cape Cod Commission.

County officials continue to have questions about the project that proponents will have to answer by the hearing’s closing date, according to a recent Cape Cod Commission staff report. The outstanding questions include the project’s visual impact on the Scenic Highway area, the effect of the wind turbines on the area’s natural resources and whether the wind farm would lower local energy costs, the staff report states.

An expert working for New Generation Wind has said the project will not reduce energy costs for Bourne residents, according to the staff report. But the developers of the project – the Lorusso family and Panhandle Trust owner Tudor “Jerry” Ingersoll – have proposed offering a energy bill subsidy for neighboring property owners.

Monday’s meeting is set to begin at 5 p.m. at Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School’s cafeteria, 220 Sandwich Road, Bourne.
