Around 150 people turned out for a meeting in East Brent Village Hall to raise their concerns over plans for a wind farm near Rooksbridge.

Members of the protest group No Pilrow and the majority of residents voted against proposals for six 140-metre tall wind turbines.

Staff from Broadview Energy, the developer, spoke of the benefits the wind farms would bring.

One of the founding members of No Pilrow, Nick Woolmington, told the Weekly News: “We found the meeting very useful as it reinforced our ideas that the majority of residents in this area are totally against wind farms. “ And over 100 residents attended public exhibitions on the proposed wind farms in Rooksbridge, East Brent and Mark held over three days.

Olly Buck, development manager for Broadview Energy, said: “Our aim is to establish and maintain an open and constructive dialogue with residents throughout this consultation process and so far we believe we are achieving this.

“In addition to the parish meeting at East Brent, we have also mounted a mobile exhibition tour in June and conducted three exhibitions last week in surrounding villages, which were attended by 130 people, and feel that we are already building a strong rapport with the local community.”

A planning application for the Pilrow wind farm could be submitted in early 2012 and, if approved by Sedgemoor District Council, the site could be operational by the summer of 2013.
