Meeting to discuss controversial wind turbine plans

Hull Daily Mail, www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk 29 July 2011

ETTON: A public meeting has been called to discuss controversial plans for two wind turbines on farmland in the village.

Two 24-metre wind turbines are proposed for an open farmland site at Laburnum Farm, Warter Road.

Etton Parish Council clerk John Smith said there are concerns it could open the floodgates for more applications if the scheme is approved by East Riding Council.

He said: “The parish council is extremely concerned that given recent changes in funding, which makes this size of turbine a more attractive proposition to landowners, there is a real risk if these turbines are approved there will be further applications submitted for a number of other sites in the locality.”

He said it is feared there will be “a proliferation of unsightly turbines desecrating beautiful rural villages, yet providing benefit only to the landowner”.

He said: “Etton is one of the prettiest villages in the area.”

The public meeting to discuss the plans for two 50kw turbines will be held at St Mary’s Church, Etton, on Wednesday, August 17, at 7pm.
