Wind turbines still off-line

LOGAN TOWNSHIP, BLAIR COUNTY – The Chestnut Flats Wind Turbine project in Logan Township, Blair County remains off line and idle.

While construction of the 19 huge wind turbines that make up the Chestnut Flats Project wrapped up before the start of this year, the pending sale of the development is apparently keeping the project off line.

Late last month, a spokesperson for Gamesa confirmed that while the huge turbines have undergone electrical testing and pre-commissioning, the 19 turbines will not go into full power production until the sale of the new wind farm is completed.

Gamesa, which manufactures the turbines and is a wind farm developer, does not operate projects like this.

Synergics Eastern Wind Energy L.L.C., which was involved in the development of the Chestnut Flats Wind Farm with Gamesa, is expected to take ownership of the project that was built at a cost of about $75 million to build.

That Company is listed in documents filed by Delmarva Power regarding the delivery of the electricity that that will be produced by the Chestnut Flats Project.

Because the negotiations over the sale of the project are on-going, Gamesa, or the future operator of the project are unable to say at this time how soon those turbine blades may start spinning.
