Bourne meeting on turbines postponed

BOURNE – The board of health meeting scheduled for tonight has been canceled, according to a town official.

The board was scheduled to vote at 6 p.m. tonight on its proposed health-related regulations for wind turbines in town, but was told by the state they needed to advertise further, health agent Cynthia Coffin said.

The meeting has been rescheduled for Aug. 10, she said.

According to Coffin, the town received a phone call and an email from the state Department of Environmental Protection late last week, informing the Bourne Health Department that their proposed turbine regulations also fall under the purview of the state’s air pollution regulations.

That means that under state law the town needs to advertise the meeting for at least two weeks, Coffin said.

This is the third time a vote on the wind turbine regulations has been rescheduled since the board of health closed its public hearing on the matter in mid-June. If the regulations are eventually approved, they will make Bourne the first town to have health regulations for turbine effects such as shadow flicker.
