Call for marker to show height of turbines

Harleston councillors have called for a perspective marker to be placed at the precise height of the two 11kw wind turbines that are sought for the town.

Discussed at a Harleston Town Council meeting on Wednesday, councillors and residents alike felt there was insufficient information to make a decision on the 24.5 metre turbines submitted by land owner John Renaut for Hill Farm in Redenhall Road.

Speaking at the meeting, chairman Roger Plant, said “Its location, noise and visual impact is the most important thing.

“I think we should care enough about the environment and people of Harleston and Redenhall, the surrounding area and the Waveney Valley that we can say we would like more information.”

South Norfolk councillor for Harleston, Jeremy Savage, said the views of the council will be taken very seriously. “It’s different to a 150 metre high site but it still needs careful consideration in relation to the landscape,” he said.

The council are still waiting to receive a montage of photos from different angles to show the impact of the turbines on the landscape and will now request the applicant also provides a perspective marker, suggested as a large balloon.

If the request is not fulfilled, the council will hold an emergency meeting to vote on the application before the deadline, which at present is receiving a mixed response.
