ITC Great Plains has gotten approval from the Kansas Corporation Commission for its part of a high-voltage power line connecting western Kansas to points east.
The route for the 345 kilovolts double-circuit line will run 122 miles through southwestern Kansas from a substation in Spearville to new substations in northern Clark County and one east of Medicine Lodge.
It will connect to a 345-kilovolt line just approved for Prairie Wind Transmission, a joint venture that includes Westar Energy, to transmit electricity generated by present and future windfarms in western Kansas to utilities in the region.
