Wind turbine project rejected by council

Plans to build five 125-metre high wind turbines between three Northamptonshire villages have been unanimously rejected.

The decision was made by South Northamptonshire Council’s development control committee at a meeting on June 30 as it was deemed to be “substantially contrary to both national and local policy across a wide range of issues.” Broadview Energy had submitted plans for the turbines to be built near the villages of Helmdon, Sulgrave and Greatworth, with some being just 600 metres from the nearest properties.

Keith Jones, chairman of the Helmdon, Stuchbury and Greatworth Windfarm Action Group (HSGWAG) said: “We are delighted that local planning professionals and councillors alike have resoundingly agreed in policy terms that this is the wrong location for an onshore wind development.

“The council determined that the small benefits arising from the scheme would be outweighed by the harm done to the local environment.”
