Bournedale turbine backers seek to subdivide land

BOURNE – First come turbines, then come the roads to access them.
The backers of a five-turbine wind project proposed for Bournedale are now asking the Cape Cod Commission to allow them to subdivide the land those turbines would be situated on.
New Generation Wind LLC – made up of Cape Cod Aggregates owners, the Lorusso family, and Panhandle Trust owners, the Ingersoll family – has applied to the commission to subdivide the 373-parcel meant for the wind turbine project into eight lots, according to documents available on the regulatory board’s website.
New Generation is also asking for permission to build five turbine access roads in its “Edgehill Park Subdivision” project, the website states.
The subdivision plan “insures that the owners of the parcels retain flexibility to develop their land under zoning that was in effect when the preliminary plan was filed in May,” project spokesman Greg O’Brien said.
Just days after preliminary plans for the project were re-filed with the Cape Cod Commission, town meeting approved a change to Bourne’s wind turbine bylaw that tightened regulations and would have eliminated the possibility of the project in town.
By filing earlier than the vote, New Generation will be reviewed under the previous bylaw.
At 10 a.m. today, a commission hearing officer will open the hearing period for Edgehill but will not take any testimony. A public hearing will be planned in the future, according to the website.
For over a year, New Generation Wind’s main project has been in front of the commission, undergoing several changes including a re-filing and the elimination of two of seven proposed turbines.
Another public hearing on the full project is scheduled for July 20.
