Energy company challenges wind farm ruling

ABC News, www.abc.net.au 11 July 2011

An energy company has appealed against a decision to block a wind farm development in South Australia’s south-east.

Last month, the Environment, Resource and Development Court upheld an appeal against the $175 million Allendale development, on the basis of the farm’s visual impact.

ACCIONA Energy has lodged a notice of appeal against that decision with the state’s Supreme Court.

The company says the wind farm would provide more than 60 jobs for the local community and generate power for up to 43,000 homes.

The project was initially approved by the District Council of Grant in March 2010.

ACCIONA’s director of development, Andrew Thomson, says the company’s planning process has been in line with all South Australian and federal planning requirements and it is important to keep all options on the table.
