More opposition to wind

by Travis Pedwell, www.bayshorebroadcasting.ca 6 July 2011

A member of Huron East Against Turbines isn’t happy about the province’s announcement this week about 25 new renewable energy projects.

Energy Minister Brad Duguid and Huron Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell announced 19 new wind projects and six new solar projects.

Robert Tetu tells Bayshore Broadcasting News contracts have been awarded to wind development companies north of St. Columban.

Tetu calls it a slap in the face to rural Ontario from the provincial government.

He says there is an election coming up and the residents don’t want turbines in the region.

Tetu says the Liberal government is way behind in the polls and says they will lose.

He tells us the McGuinty government will go down and try to take rural Ontario with it.

As for ideas to fight the announcement – Tetu says his group has nothing right now.

He says the wind development company has another meeting and 60 days to file for the turbines.

Tetu hopes during that time the municipal council will do everything it can to prevent the turbine development until the election is over.

During the Mitchell announcement – she noted the amount of emergency asthma attacks for children are at an all-time low.

Tetu disagrees with her statement.

He says 9 percent of electricity is being produced by coal and gas and he questions why there was a smog advisory over the weekend.

Tetu notes he’s received quite a number of emails but one recently from a family looking to relocate to Seaforth.

He says the family has strong concerns about wind turbines.

Tetu adds the more wind development that comes to the area – the less residents who will want to call Huron East and other parts of Southwestern Ontario home.
