Wind farm proposal is ‘ridiculous’

Senator Sarah Hanson-Young’s suggestion to develop a wind farm in Whyalla to induce industry should OneSteel be affected by the imposing carbon tax has been deemed as “ill-informed” and “ridiculous”.

To suggest it would only affect several hundred workers – indicates her complete lack of knowledge of the structure of the OneSteel Operations and the Whyalla Community’s reliance on this industry

Enterprising Women Whyalla chairperson Bernadette Abraham believes Sarah Hanson-Young’s proposal for a wind farm to be developed in light of the carbon tax is a quite extraordinary statement for a Senator for South Australia – someone who should know better.

“Obviously, a carbon tax will affect Whyalla, but until such time as we see some detail in what’s being outlined, we can’t make a decision.”

Ms Abraham said she did not believe the suggestion of a wind farm would substitute the steel manufacturing industry in Whyalla.
