Wind farm submissions closed

Submissions for the proposed White Rock Wind Farm, 20km west of Glen Innes, closed on Monday.

At its meeting on Thursday, Glen Innes Severn Council approved a motion to submit its previously adopted Development Control Plan for wind farm developments.

The council requested that the provisions contained in that plan be incorporated into the development, such as turbines being located at least 2km away from any existing homes.

The turbines are proposed to have a maximum tip height (tower plus blades) of 150 metres above ground level and located on a series of ridge lines running north to south between the Gwydir Highway and Maybole Road.

Council also objected to the location of any wind turbines which do not comply with the South Australian Environment Protection Authority’s Wind Farms – Environmental Noise Guidelines.

The proposed wind farm will have a capital cost in excess of $30 million and it will be considered under Part 3A of the Environmental and Planning Assessment Act.

Renewable energy company Epuron is the proponent for the development.

The public exhibition process started on May 27 and all of the submissions received will be reviewed by the Department of Planning and Infrastructure before a decision is made.
