Green light for wind farm

The latest battle in the war of wind turbine development in Grey Bruce, has been won by International Power Canada.

The company has received approval from Grey Highlands council to begin work on six proposed wind turbines and a hydro switching station.

Council passed a bylaw Monday night that sets the fee at five thousand dollars per entrance.

IPC President Mike Crawley says with building permits and entrance permits now in hand, construction on the 70 million dollar project can start within weeks.

He says the planned 11 turbines could be up and running later this year.

However, opponents like Lorrie Gillis of Friends of Grey Highlands are not about to give up.

She says that council passed the bylaw because members felt threatened with legal action if they stalled the process any longer.

CAO Dan Best told council there was a “strong possibility” that IPC would launch a lawsuit against council if it failed to pass the entrance bylaw at Mondays’ meeting.

Gillis says there is still a case before the divisional court for the road-use agreement – that could halt the project.
