Relief for campaigners as controversial wind farm rejected

Western Morning News, www.thisisdevon.co.uk 23 June 2011

Campaigners shed tears of relief last night as councillors revealed plans for a controversial wind farm had been turned down after a five-year battle.

North Devon Council’s planning committee yesterday unanimously turned down an application to build a nine-turbine wind farm close to the southern border of Exmoor National Park.

At a packed meeting specially staged at Bishops Nympton, more than 200 people listened to the arguments for and against energy company NPower Renewables’ application for the 100-metre tall turbines at Batsworthy Cross near Knowstone.

Planning officers had recommended the application for conditional approval.

However, most of the speakers invited to comment were against the plans and all 13 councillors on the committee rejected the plans for the giant wind-farm.
