Planning lodged for Toon valley wind farm

A planning application had been lodged for an eleven turbine wind farm in the scenic Toon valley area of Mid Cork.

Under planning file No 11/05245 Enerco Energy of Lissarda Business Park, Lissarda, Co. Cork, have applied for planning for 11 wind turbines with a maximum ground to top blade tip height of 126m at Cleanrath South, Cleanrath North and Derrineanig, Macroom.

Ancillary structures are planned to include an 85m meteorological mast, substation compound with control house close at the Derreen entrance, internal road network and associated drainage features, two borrow pits, underground cabling, temporary construction site compound close to the Derreen entrance and associated works are included.

One wind turbine delivery entrance from the Toon road and one light vehicle access from the Inchigeela/ Reidh na nDoiri road at Derreen are outlined on the maps. Both entrances are to have planning notices.

The Toon Valley is a popular location for walkers and contains a bog preserved by the Macroom Environmental Group as well as the proposed natural heritage area of the Toon Wood.

Enerco Energy recently held a public information day at the Ionad Aise in Reidh na nDóirí.

The application is dated June 9 and a decision on the application is expected on August 3.
