Commissioners intervene in wind farm project

www.wmfd.com 23 June 2011

The Richland County Commissioners have approved a resolution to intervene in the proposed wind farm to be built on 25,000 acres straddling the Richland-Crawford County line, northwest of Shelby.

Commissioner Ed Olson says the roads on which the massive turbines are trucked in will sustain millions of dollars of damage.

And, Commissioner Tim Wert says this resolution to intervene seeks assurances the roads will be repaired by the wind farm company, and not at the county’s expense.

As many as 200 turbines are expected to be hauled in over a period of up to nine months.

The starting date for the wind farm project has not been determined.
