'Soft target' for windfarms

Northumberland Gazette, www.northumberlandgazette.co.uk 19 June 2011

A public meeting to discuss windfarms takes place on Tuesday, after fears that Northumberland is seen as a ‘soft target’ for turbine applications.

The discussion will form part of Northumberland County Council’s Communities & Place Overview & Scrutiny Committee, at Morpeth Town Hall, at 6pm.

Committee chairman Glen Sanderson, who is ward member for Chevington with Longhorsley, said: “The situation is that over the last year or so, there has been an increasing feeling that Northumberland is a soft target for windfarm applications.

“We need to be clear whether this is fact or not.

“If it is a fact, then the county council has a duty to make strong representations to the Government to ensure that our landscape is not plundered for windfarms.”

There will be speakers on the night to discuss the situation.

“This discussion should be quite illuminating,” Coun Sanderson added.
