Breaking: Wind-farm mast plan thrown out

By Megi Rychlikova, The Press, www.yorkpress.co.uk 16 June 2011

Controversial plans for a 70-metre mast on the outskirts of York have been thrown out.

Within the past few minutes, a City of York Council committee has rejected the application by Banks Renewables, which wanted to site a mast at Copmanthorpe.

The firm wanted to collate data about wind speeds with a view to building a full wind-farm in the area.

Hundreds of protesters had lobbied against the plans, in Copmanthorpe yesterday and outside Guildhall in York City Centre today.

Councillors have refused the application, saying it would be inappopriate in the green belt.
