PRINCETON – Bureau County and the Iberdrola Renewable wind developers, owners of the Providence Heights Wind LCC wind farm south of Tiskilwa, have reached a settlement agreement for all damage to roads the wind farm caused.
Bureau County Board member Steve Sondgeroth (R-District 11) announced Tuesday the county received $1,150,000 from Iberdrola Renewables that will cover all needed road repairs.
In 2009 the county board voted to declare Providence Heights Wind LCC to be at default with its road agreement for failing to fulfill its obligations to the county. The original roads agreement with Iberdrola Renewables was dated Nov. 30, 2006.
Sondgeroth said the money was received about ten days ago and was placed in the Bureau County highway fund. An extra $50,000 was also given to the county to be used during the operation phase in case Iberdrola would like to use the roads and happen to damage them before the county finishes the repairs. Any of the $50,000 the county does not use will be returned to Iberdrola.
“With the operational agreement we will work with other wind farms in that area and try to have an operational roads agreement that is the same for everyone in the southern part of the county,” said Sondgeroth.
“Now that we have the money we are going to move full speed a head on getting those roads fixed.”
The county board approved to place the settlement on file.
