GODERICH – After being cautioned it can’t impose a moratorium on further wind turbine development, Huron County council voted June 1 to “agree to support” a moratorium in the county until further health studies are completed.
A motion to support a moratorium passed 9-6 in an unrecorded vote after a request from Anita Frayne, an Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh resident who made a presentation at council’s June 1 regular meeting. Frayne asked council to “say ‘no’ to any further industrial wind turbine development at this time,” saying to do anything less would be irresponsible.
Central Huron Coun. Brian Barnim responded with a motion that council bring forward a moratorium on wind turbines in the county until further health studies are done.
But county planning director Scott Tousaw suggested council be careful about the wording of the motion, saying council doesn’t have the decision-making authority to impose a moratorium.
Barnim altered his motion to say that council supports a moratorium, and after a prolonged debate, it passed. ..please read more in this weeks Wingham Advance Times
