Wind turbine plans for Rooksbridge

Six 140-metre tall wind turbines could be built near Rooksbridge, it emerged this week.

Broadview Energy Limited intends to build a wind farm at Pilrow, one kilometre south of the village.

The firm says its early assessments suggest Pilrow would be suitable for a wind farm of this scale but it will submit plans this month to erect a meteorological mast to better assess the wind speed.

Ed Champion, East Brent Parish Council chairman, said the council would be meeting to discuss the plans.

He said: “I’m sure residents will be divided over this. Personally, I don’t have strong feelings about wind farms. In the right place, I don’t find them unsightly.”

Broadview Energy Limited said the wind farm would be built within 12 to 18 months of planning permission being secured, and that each turbine could generate between 2MW and 3MW of electricity.

A mobile exhibition will be visiting the following locations: June 16 – Chapel Road lay-by, Rooksbridge, 9.30am to 1.30pm; East Brent Parish Hall, 4pm to 8pm; June 17 – White Horse, Mark, 10am to 2pm; Chapel Road lay-by, Rooksbridge, 4pm to 7pm; June 18 – Asda car park, Highbridge, 10am to 2pm.

Project manager Tom Cosgrove said: “We are at a very early stage with our plans and are keen to hear people’s thoughts and give the local community an opportunity to have their say in our plans.

“We understand that any new development can have an impact on communities and we want to have open discussions with local people from the outset.”
