Wind Prospect submits appeal over Oldbury wind farm

BBC News, www.bbc.co.uk 7 June 2011

A firm behind a proposed wind farm near Bristol has submitted an appeal after it was refused planning permission.

Planners had backed Wind Prospect’s Stoneyard Lane scheme, in Oldbury-on-Severn, but councillors rejected it.

The application had prompted complaints and one resident described it as “grossly out of proportion” with the surroundings.

The Planning Inspectorate will now have the final say over the scheme, which could power 5,500 homes.

The firm had proposed four turbines which would have been 127m (416ft) high and one 80m (262ft) mast alongside them.

Sophie Nioche, from Wind Prospect, said: “We believe we have a strong case for appeal and that the planning officer’s recommendation for approval should have been upheld.

“The officer’s report showed that our application was robust and met local and national planning objectives.”
