Health forum on wind farms

The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) hosted a forum today on concerns about the health effects of wind turbines.
Scientists, experts and consumers gathered in Canberra to discuss the latest research on wind generators.
Some residents living close to large wind turbines say they suffer from nausea, headaches and anxiety.
NHMRC’s John McCallum says there is no published scientific evidence linking the two, but more research is needed.
“The point is that we’re really still in the early days of research on affects of sound coming from wind farms and the evidence is not strong either way,” Professor McCallum said.
“The absence of evidence can’t be misinterpreted as evidence of an absence of effect. Nonetheless at this stage, it didn’t say strongly that there is a health impact.
“In terms of solid evidence, there is still a lot of work to be done around wind farms and health.”
It has been two years since the last review of wind turbines and health impacts.
