The Vermont Public Service Board recently gave the green light to GMP’s plan for the Kingdom Community Wind project on Lowell Mountain in the Northeast Kingdom.
Opponents like Energize Vermont have declared they are not giving up without a fight, saying the project is too big for the state’s size. The utility says it’s cost-effective and good for the state.
Dostis said funds from the project such as taxes and jobs might go elsewhere. “Best to keep it here to support our own economy,” he said.
Snelling said Vermonters are finding the project is just too big of scale and scope,” These towers are four hundred and fifty feet tall, there’s twenty of them … some of them are as close as 190 feet from the nearest property.”
But with the approval of the public service board, “That was a green light for this project,” said Dostis.
One thing is sure, the argument on where Vermont’s energy future lies, is not over.
