NEW BRITAIN – Connecticut’s first commercial wind project has been approved.
The Connecticut Siting Council, which has the sole authority over wind turbine placement, in a voice vote on Thursday approved a project to build three wind turbines off Flagg Hill Road in Colebrook.
The decision comes a little more than a week after the council held a straw poll indicating they would vote in favor of the plan. A straw poll for a second project to be built off Rock Hall Road is planned for Thursday afternoon. A final vote will be on June 9.
BNE Energy of West Hartford in December submitted a petition to the council proposing to build three wind-generating turbines off Flagg Hill Road. Each turbine would sit atop a 328-foot tall tower and would have whirling blades, up to 100 meters in length.
