Lower Saucon Township Council discusses wind energy ordinances

The Lower Saucon Township Council held a special meeting Wednesday to discuss regulating wind energy.

Planner Judith Stern Goldstein made a presentation to the council and discussed possibilities for the future of the alternative energy source.

The council is now drafting ordinances to regulate both individual wind turbines as well as a possible future wind farm within the township’s limits.

The council doesn’t foresee any substantial wind energy developments or a wind farm for at least a few years.

Township Manager Jack Cahalan said drafting ordinances is a preliminary move to ensure the township is ready if proposals for wind power emerge.

“The consensus was to act on it now,” Cahalan said.

In addition to wind energy, the council also discussed lighting ordinances.
