Wind turbine stuck on train tracks

A big traffic mess in Shelby Tuesday night.

A trailer carrying a 150-foot long blade for a wind turbine got stuck on the railroad tracks on Main Street, blocking downtown traffic from 6:30 to 11:30.

Mayor Marilyn John says the Ohio Department of Transportation sent the trailer through Shelby, on its way to Celina, but didn’t tell her.

She says she’ll discuss this situation with city council and see what it wants to do about preventing this from happening again.

Police and Utility Department workers had to be called in, piling up overtime expenses for the city.

John says this was the third long trailer hauling a wind turbine blade to pass through Shelby Tuesday night. The first two made it over the tracks, but the third one broke in the middle.

The blade had to be lifted while the trailer was repaired.
